Spotted my first paint chip today (not my car pictured). It’s pretty small, not quite as big as a pencil eraser. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Anyone have any experience with touch up paint for this kind of thing?

I used the DR Color Chip stuff, I’d recommend feathering out the area before applying touchup paint. I didn’t and now regret it.

Time to sell it or turn it into a lead sled rat rod.

If the chip isnt too deep; give the area a good clean, degrease, dab on etch or metal primer with a Q tip to fill the chip, then dab on a good quality touch up paint with a Q tip.

On such a new car it might be worth getting it taken of professionally though.

Order the paint to code and mix 60% paint with 40% clearcoat. Wipe area with panel wipe or IPA to fully clean and degrease. Then apply with a cocktail stick (not the brush) into the centre of the chip and built up.

I forgot to mention the clear coat, the last car I did chip repair on was my Panda, which had single stage paint.

Oh, I know how you feel. The day after I bought my 2015 Golf SportWagen (which was exactly two weeks ago), I was headed back to the dealer to pick something up, and just on the highway exit, a big, thick piece of plywood flew up from off of the road and hit the left corner of the front bumper, and it made a nice little scratch around the wheel well..which thankfully can be buffed out. Still, I was pretty pissed and I thought it had done a lot more damage than it had. Fortunately, the car is grey, so it’s not even that noticeable. It would have been a lot worse on my previous SportWagen, which was black.

I’ve bought from paintscratch.com before, and it was a perfect match. If you use a paint chip repair kit you’ll have better results than just dabbing it on.

Touch it up, and get a clear bra!

Nope. It’s totalled now. Gonna have to CPO into that Jetta Sportwagen you orginally wanted.

I also used Dr ColorChip for what ended up being a perfect, invisible repair. Just follow the instructions carefully and you should be good!

You’ll get over it in a week. I always do.

I feel your pain. Came out of a grocery store after doing my shopping to find a lifted truck speeding away and a small dent above the passenger door.

paintscratch.com

I guess I've been a customer for them since I was a 14 y/o kid.. so 2004. Forgot how I came across them but I've been a long time customer.

Had a spray can and spray clear for my mother's 2004 Sienna in light blue metallic. Paint matched well. Then ordered again in 2007 for my previous Maxima (dark grey blue metallic), then again in 2011 for current black pearl GTI, and then again last year for my father's candy white CC.

There was an oddball scratch that the CC had that I really wished I had a spray can for. Otherwise, the pens are great for chips. They do have the propensity to gunk up over time (quite evident in my GTI's 4 year old pen) but thorough cleaning after each use will go a long way.

I’ve had it on my to-do list to get some touch-up, and DR Color Chip was the brand I was going to go for. Aside from not feathering, did it work pretty good? I’ve got a chip out of my blue paint about the size of a metal BB (pretty small) with what I assume to be gray primer visible underneath. Must’ve been a pebble on the highway or something.

Came out of a grocery store parking lot just a *tad* too hot (was trying to make the light), and got my first scrape on the bottom lip of my brand new M3. I honestly almost cried.

57 years later, Tom McParland’s VW Golf was sold at auction as part of his estate after his death. Rumor had it there was still factory air in the tires.

Go to a dealer and ask for a paint pen. Not sure about VW, but I’ve gone to GM for them. Costs like $10 and is a perfect match.
